Troubleshooting Common Lamination Problems: DIY Fixes You Should Know

Lamination is a key process in many industries and remains one of the fastest-growing product segments today. However, not every lamination process goes flawlessly. Fortunately, many common lamination issues can be resolved quickly and efficiently without the need for professional service. Here are six DIY solutions to the most frequent lamination problems:

Horizontal Wavy Lines Across Your Output
If your laminated documents look like they have ocean waves, it might be due to excessive pressure from the front roller. To fix this, simply reduce the front roller pressure, and your lamination should smooth out, clearing up those wavy lines.

Concave Waves
If you notice concave waves in your lamination, it could indicate that your machine’s feed rollers are warped. In this case, you'll need to replace the rollers to ensure even and smooth lamination.

Angled Waves on One Side
When lamination waves appear only on one side of the document, it's typically a sign that the roller pressure on that specific side (either right or left) needs adjustment. Tightening the rear roller pressure on the affected side should help rectify the issue and flatten out the document.

Angled Waves on Both Sides
If you're seeing waves on both sides of your laminated document, it suggests that the rear roller pressure may be too loose, especially when working with thicker materials. Tightening the rear roller pressure should help hold the document more securely and evenly.

Foggy Output
A foggy or hazy appearance on laminated documents usually indicates that the film hasn’t properly adhered to the document. This can be resolved by increasing the machine's heat setting or reducing the lamination speed, allowing the film more time to adhere effectively.

Film Not Sticking
If the lamination film isn’t sticking to the document, it might require more heat or a slower lamination speed to enhance adhesion. Additionally, some documents, especially those with full-color bleeds, might need a film with extra adhesive properties. Consider using a SuperStick film, which is designed to adhere under more challenging conditions.

Lamination doesn't have to be complicated, and most issues can be resolved with simple adjustments.
